Every day SANCCOB witness’s the consequences of environmental challenges on seabirds and marine ecosystems. Plastic pollution, unsustainable fishing practices, habitat loss, and climate-related pressures are realities that directly affect the survival of species such as the critically endangered African penguin.
On World Environment Day, we are reminded that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility. Conservation does not begin and end with environmental organisations; it is shaped by the choices we make every day.
Here are five simple ways you can help make a lasting difference:
1. Support conservation organisations through volunteering, fundraising, advocacy, or donations.
2. Reduce, reuse and recycle to minimise waste and prevent pollution from entering natural ecosystems.
3. Choose sustainable seafood to support responsible fishing practices and healthier oceans.
4. Avoid single-use plastics by choosing reusable alternatives whenever possible.
5. Use your voice by sharing credible environmental information and encouraging others to adopt sustainable habits.
The health of our oceans is deeply connected to the future of our seabirds. By taking action today, no matter how small, we can help create a cleaner, healthier environment for wildlife and future generations alike.
